The LORD shall fight for you and you shall hold your peace. (KJV)

The LORD will fight for you while you keep silent. (NASB)

Exodus 14:14

Be still ... Hold your peace ... Keep silent ...

While this world rages all around us, and things seem to go from bad to worse, it's hard to be still. We rush to and fro, intent on living our daily lives, and we miss the Lord's still, small voice whispering "be still."

I don't know about you, but I often try to do it on my own. The more I try to muddle through my problems, the worse it seems to get.

Yet, several thousand years ago, the Israelites had a problem that seemed insurmountable. They had just left Egypt - thanks ONLY to God's miracles (as if Moses could have produced the frogs all by himself!). They were, quite literally, running for their life. No air conditioning. Big desert. Thousands of people. Kids running all around, oblivious to the danger, driving their parents crazy. Adults screaming at each other and at Moses - "Why did you do this to us? We were better off as slaves!" Yet, they pressed on, sure that God was running the show.

Suddenly, they feel the temperature go down and the humidity go up. At first, it must have seemed like heaven. Water at last! Then ...

THE RED SEA! "Now what, Moses? You got us into this mess; how are you going to get us out of it?" Talk about an insurmountable problem! No boats, no way to go around, and the mighty Egyptian army at their heels!

Be still ...

Yeah, right! They wanted to be still then as much as we can be still now.

Faith. That's the key. We know that God has promised to take care of us. What did the Israelites do? They pressed on, assured of God's protection. What should we do when we are persecuted? Press on. He will fight for us if we are only still.

We face our own Red Seas every day. It can be work, the kids, relationships, the way we have to live our lives. We just need to remember that God has promised to fight for us if we are only still ... relying on Him ... holding our peace ... keeping silent.

The LORD shall fight for you

Every day

In every circumstance

He's always there for you.

YOU need only be still.
