Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."Matthew 11:28-30
There's an old saying: "No rest for the weary."
That's how I've felt these past few weeks. I've had very little sleep and very little time to myself. As most of you know, I am attending seminary. Classes are keeping me extremely busy and have pulled me away from Whosoever more than I ever intended. It's hard to keep up with devotionals, page maintenance and e-mail when you have hundreds of pages of stuff to read, papers to write and tests to study for.
In a word, I'm weary.
In our times of busyness, we tend to forget to take a few moments and just rest. I read Jesus' words from Matthew this morning and decided what I need is a little rest. Not the "put-your-feet-up-and-take-it-easy" kind of rest, but real rest that comes with Christ. In Christ we are still called to action, we are expected to work, but with real faith comes real rest. The yoke is easy and the burden is light.
Recently, I've found the work difficult, only because I have refused to rest in Christ. Instead of taking my heavy burdens to Christ, I've tried to bear them myself. I've tried to work out schedules, make time for this or that, and give up making time for other types of things. I've refused to remain open for the leading of Spirit. I've unintentionally made the work hard by refusing to turn it over to Christ.
Give up your burdens, lay them at the feet of Jesus. Remain open to the spirit's call every moment of your day. If you do, you'll find you have the time to do everything God wishes for you to accomplish. You may even find a few minutes to yourself, and a chance to rest in Christ.
Blessings,
Candace
